There is much written in law that affects what one can and cannot do to a tree. These laws can have a bearing on what advice you may give to someone in your community. For example the law governing trees covered by a Tree Preservation Order, or trees in a Conservation Area. There are rights and responsibilities associated with ownership of a tree, as well as common law rights for those who do not own a tree.
It may help you to become familiar with some of these laws, again so you can point people in the right direction.
A good place to start is with the Arboricultural Information Exchange www.aie.org.uk. See ‘Law’ in the left hand column.
There is more information on these web pages than one could mention on here, however as new case law appears we will highlight it on this page.
